What Is SiteFinder?
Verisign is now trying to use that advantage against its competitors in a way that violates their contracts with ICANN, which specifies that the DNS system work in a certain reliable way. These are referred to in RFC 1034, 1035, and 2182. Among other things, they specify that the DNS system must be reliable in the answers it gives; it should not return a number for a name that is not associated with it. What they are doing is this: Whenever a user types in a domain name in the .com space that does not exist, instead of the usual error message produced by your computer, or your web browser, you will instead be brought to a special search engine page run by Verisign called SiteFinder.
